Before and after
The “before” is an illustration of the kind of starting point this concept was designed for. The business is made up; the problem is common.

Corner Chair Barbers
Barber · Shawlands
Walk-ins welcome. DM for prices.
Before: a photo grid and a bio that says “DM for prices”. No prices, no hours, nothing for Google to find.
After · the concept site
After: the price list sits straight under the headline, readable on a phone and by Google.
The brief
Corner Chair is a one-chair, walk-in-friendly barber in Shawlands with a loyal crowd and an Instagram account. That’s it.
When someone nearby searches for a barber, they find the chains instead: prices, opening hours, a map. So they walk there. The brief was to make three things obvious from a phone: what a cut costs, when the chair is free, and how to get there.
What I built
A one-page site with the price list straight under the headline, opening hours, a gallery of recent cuts, a map and a call button that stays within thumb reach on mobile.
The “Book a chair” button is ready to link to whichever booking system the barber uses. Walk-ins stay the main message.
Design choices
Palette
Taken from the chair itself: matte black leather, a bone-coloured cape and brass fittings. Brass is used sparingly, for prices and the call button.
Type
Anton for headings: tall, condensed and loud enough to read like a sign across the street. Inter Tight keeps the small print tidy.
Why the price list sits so high
Price is the first thing people want to know about a barber they’ve never tried. Answering it in the first scroll means fewer people leave for a chain that does show its prices.

Fast on a phone
Most visitors arrive on a phone, often on a patchy signal. Here’s the concept’s home page on a phone, and how it scores in Google’s Lighthouse test.

Measured with Lighthouse 13.6.0 on 1 November 2026: mobile, simulated slow 4G (Lighthouse default), production build served with compression like Cloudflare Pages. “Main
content visible” is Largest Contentful Paint. SEO scores 69 here only because concept pages are deliberately
hidden from Google (noindex), which Lighthouse counts against them; this site’s real pages score 100.
