Before and after

The “before” is an illustration of the kind of starting point this concept was designed for. The business is made up; the problem is common.

New autumn menu is in! See the photo.

  • Do you do oat milk?
  • Are you open on Sundays?
The menu is a photo Google can’t read it Hours buried in old posts

Before: the menu was a photo in a social post. Google can’t read text in a photo, so customers had to ask.

After · the concept site

After: a real menu page, with prices, dietary tags and the allergen note as text.

The brief

Wee Cup is a small café and bakery on the Southside. Its menu lived in photos on a Facebook page, so Google couldn’t read it, and nobody could check for oat milk or gluten-free bakes without sending a message.

The brief was to get the menu, the hours and the accessibility details somewhere both customers and Google can actually see them.

What I built

Four short pages: Home, Menu, About and Visit. The menu is real text, not a photo, so it shows up in search, with prices, dietary tags and an allergen note.

Visit covers opening hours, getting there and a step-free access note. The “Order ahead” button is ready for whichever ordering app the café picks.

Design choices

Palette

The colours of the counter: oat milk, espresso, a sage-green tile and a terracotta pot. Warm and calm, never shouty.

Type

Young Serif has the friendly weight of a chalkboard written by a careful hand. Work Sans keeps the menu clear at small sizes.

A grid that feels familiar

The photo grid echoes Instagram, because that’s where the regulars already look, but here the photos load fast and sit next to the actual menu.

Fast on a phone

Most visitors arrive on a phone, often on a patchy signal. Here’s the concept’s home page on a phone, and how it scores in Google’s Lighthouse test.

Measured with Lighthouse 13.6.0 on 1 November 2026: mobile, simulated slow 4G (Lighthouse default), production build served with compression like Cloudflare Pages. “Main content visible” is Largest Contentful Paint. SEO scores 69 here only because concept pages are deliberately hidden from Google (noindex), which Lighthouse counts against them; this site’s real pages score 100.
